Spore Spotlight: HyphalMind’s Journey with Paja Crown

This week’s spotlight features a cultivar known for its unique beauty. We had the pleasure of speaking with HyphalMind, a passionate cultivator who’s been working with this variety for over a year. His passion for this variety has brought out unparalleled beauty that they have continually refined.

Origins: Paja Crown

Paja Crown is a uniquely crafted variety with roots stretching across continents. Bred by Evyatar Siani in Israel, it’s a cross between the well-known Ghost lineage and the lesser-known Paja Poke a genetic that traces its origins to Brazil. While Paja Poke hasn’t yet made waves in U.S. cultivation circles, this cross brings a fresh expression to the culture scene, with strong vigor and distinctive characteristics that are gaining quiet momentum among dedicated growers.

My curiosity about psilocybin containing mushrooms began with research into microdosing and its potential to replace medications like SSRIs. Even knowing it wouldn’t show up on military urinalysis, I held back. Until I dove in with a full 4 grams. That first trip left me with a lasting belief: everything happens for a reason.

In early 2023, I ran into my brother by chance at Walmart. He’d been growing cannabis and experimenting with mushrooms, and during our talk he offered me a psilocybin chocolate bar. At the time, I was drinking nightly, numbing myself with video games, and battling PTSD and depression. I convinced myself it wasn’t a problem because I still went to the gym, but inside I was struggling. Most combat veterans return home with more scars inside than what is visible on the outside.

I started microdosing three to four times a week. The benefits hit almost immediately—motivation, focus, and productivity. Work stress felt manageable for the first time in years. When the effects began to fade, I decided to take matters into my own hands and learn cultivation. My first Golden Teacher grow was a success, and I quickly realized I had more mushrooms than I needed. That’s when it clicked. I wanted to share this medicine with those close to me.

By late 2023, I was connecting with many great cultivators online. Cultivation of mushrooms became more than just something to consume for me. I noticed that I was growing for the sheer passion and how I felt during a nice afterglow effect from a large dose of mushrooms just by being in the same room working with every facet of cultivation. I will still have a microdose here and there and once every few months do a macrodose, but because of this wonderful hobby, I get more from them than when I consume them.
Since November 2023, I haven’t touched alcohol or video games.
